Job Description
As a Machinist II, you will set up and operate a variety of machine
tools including lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and
precision grinders to manufacture parts, mechanisms, tools, or
machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. This position
requires a skilled individual who can interpret blueprints,
determine operation sequences, and execute precise machining
operations with minimal supervision.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include interpreting
engineering specifications, setting up machines for optimal
performance, executing machining operations, and verifying that
finished parts meet all dimensional and quality requirements. You
will utilize your expertise in machinist's hand tools and precision
measuring instruments to ensure that components are manufactured to
exact specifications.

skills in manual machining, and can work efficiently while

Duties and Responsibilities Interpret blueprints, sketches, and
engineering specifications to understand part requirements.
Determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and
method of setup for optimal efficiency. Use a variety of
machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to
ensure accuracy. Make standard shop computations relating to
dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds. Measure, mark, and
scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for
machining. Set up and operate various machine tools including
lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders. Fit and assemble
precision parts into mechanical equipment as needed. Determine
materials, parts, and equipment required for fabrication tasks.
Operate numerically controlled machines when required. Monitor and
verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other
control procedures. Maintain clean and organized work area
following safety and operational standards. Complete required
documentation for production tracking and quality assurance.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as scheduled.
Required Experience/Skills Proven manual machining experience -
setting up and operating machine tools, lathes, and milling
machines. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints,
sketches, and engineering specifications. Experience making
standard machine shop computations relating to dimensions, tooling,
feeds, and speeds. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Ability to lift and/or
move up to 40 pounds. Willingness to work overtime when required.
Capability to perform all duties with minimal supervision. Strong
attention to detail and commitment to quality. Effective
communication skills for collaborating with team members. High
School diploma or GED required.
Nice-to-Haves Sheet metal and fabrication experience. Vocational
education in machining or related field. Knowledge of 5S and Lean
manufacturing principles. Experience with CNC programming and
operation. Background in tool and die making. Familiarity with
precision grinding operations. Knowledge of various material
properties and machinability. Experience with quality control
procedures and inspection methods. NIMS (National Institute for
Metalworking Skills) certifications.
Education High School diploma or GED required. Vocational/Technical
training in machining or related field preferred.
