in healthcare. About the Role: The Registered Nurse (RN) for the 2W
Post-Surgical unit plays a critical role in delivering
comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from various
surgical procedures. This position focuses on monitoring patient
progress, managing post-operative complications, and ensuring
effective pain control to promote optimal recovery outcomes. The RN
collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams including
surgeons, anesthesiologists, and physical therapists to develop and
implement individualized care plans. Additionally, the nurse
educates patients and their families on post-surgical care,
discharge instructions, and health maintenance to support long-term
wellness. Ultimately, this role is essential in providing
compassionate, evidence-based care that enhances patient safety and
satisfaction during the vulnerable post-operative period. Minimum
Qualifications: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in
the state of Oklahoma. Graduation from an accredited nursing
program. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Strong knowledge
of post-operative care principles and infection control standards.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic health record
(EHR) systems, particularly Epic or Cerner. Demonstrated skills in
patient education and discharge planning. Previous experience
working in a fast-paced surgical unit or critical care environment.
Responsibilities: Assess and monitor patients’ vital signs,
surgical sites, and overall condition to detect any signs of
complications or infection. Administer medications, intravenous
fluids, and pain management therapies as prescribed, ensuring
adherence to safety protocols. Collaborate with physicians and
other healthcare professionals to update and implement
individualized care plans based on patient progress. Provide
patient and family education regarding post-operative care, wound
management, medication regimens, and activity restrictions.
Document all nursing interventions, patient responses, and changes
in condition accurately and promptly in the electronic health
record system. Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies,
utilizing critical thinking and clinical judgment to prioritize
care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain
compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory
standards. Skills: The RN utilizes clinical assessment skills daily
to evaluate patient status and identify potential complications
early. Effective communication skills are essential for
coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams and educating
patients and families about recovery processes. Time management and
organizational skills enable the nurse to prioritize multiple
patients’ needs efficiently while maintaining high standards of
care. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate
documentation and facilitates seamless information sharing among
healthcare providers. Additionally, critical thinking and
problem-solving skills are applied continuously to adapt care plans
and respond to dynamic clinical situations in the post-surgical
setting.
